As the excitement of commencement fades and graduates move into their next chapters, the Mayville State University campus is quieter. Most students have left the residence halls, classrooms are empty as most Summer Session courses are offered online, and the academic year gives way to an in-between time that is full of purpose. That quiet extends beyond the campus too. In the surrounding community, the daily buzz has shifted with the absence of students, prompting a noticeable gap after months of activity.
Dustin Olson, Professor of Business, was presented with the Jeff Sieg Award for Teaching Excellence during the annual Academic and Student Senate Awards Program held at Mayville State University Wednesday, May 6, 2026. Formerly the Teacher of the Year Award, the Student Senate renamed the award in 2020 to honor the memory of longtime Mayville State science professor, Jeff Sieg, an incredibly gifted educator, mentor, and role model for what excellence in the classroom should be.
On Memorial Day, we remember. We remember names etched in stone and carried quietly in the hearts of families across generations. Some of their stories are told often. Others wait, sometimes for decades or longer, for their ending.
Members of the public are invited to see first-hand the progress in the Old Main renovation project at Mayville State University. A tour is planned for Tuesday, June 2 at 10 a.m. Those who wish to take the tour must wear long pants and closed toe shoes. Participants must report to the construction offices located directly to the south of Old Main for safety instructions and to be outfitted with protection gear prior to the beginning of the tour. The Mayville State University employee recognition banquet, held Tuesday evening, April 28, 2026, was a tribute to the employees of Mayville State for their work and commitment to the university. The event celebrated service milestones, honored retirements, and gave thanks for the people who make Mayville State a family. It was held at the Mayville State Campus Center Luckasen Room. All Mayville State employees and their guests were invited to attend, as were Mayville State retirees and their guests.
A big thank you to Mayville State graduate Kellen Enget and his May-Port CG Public School students for their incredible work in helping to clean up the campus grounds on May 13 and 14! Mr. Enget and some of his students partnered with members of the Mayville State Alumni Association Board to assist with spring clean-up efforts on the grounds at the Edson and Margaret Larson Alumni and Leadership Center, helping to prepare for the season ahead. Other students worked in other parts of the campus.
