Dr. Brittany Hagen, Associate Professor of Education, has been named the 2023-24 recipient of the Jeff Sieg Award for Teaching Excellence at Mayville State University. The award was presented as part of the annual Academic and Student Senate Awards Program held Monday, April 29, 2024.
Selections for the award are made each year by the Mayville State Student Senate. A member of the interview committee and Student Senate President, Grant Kocher, said, “Dr. Hagen’s dedication to her students and the university is unmatched. She is super-reliable and cares about her students as though they are her own children. She is a lifelong learner and she strives to be a better person every day.”
Other nominees for the 2023-24 Jeff Sieg Award for Teaching Excellence were Dr. Carly Theis, Dr. Yvonne Cannon, Dr. Clayton Dodson, and Fred Strand.
The award recognizes an individual faculty member who has shown dedication and excellence in teaching at Mayville State. Formerly known as the Teacher of the Year Award, the Jeff Sieg Award for Teaching Excellence was named in honor of former Mayville State professor of science Jeff Sieg, who passed away unexpectedly in the fall of 2019. Sieg was a beloved faculty member who was named teacher of the year at Mayville State on multiple occasions. He was an incredibly gifted educator, mentor, and role model for what excellence in the classroom should be.
As the 2023-24 recipient of the award, Hagen has received an engraved plaque acknowledging this honor. Her name will also be added to a plaque recognizing all recipients of the award. It is displayed in the hallway of the Division of Science and Mathematics at Mayville State.
