Join us in Arizona for golf, reminiscing, and camaraderie

We’re looking forward to our annual trip to the Mesa, Ariz. area and the opportunity to see many Mayville State alumni and friends. Each year, my wife, Nina, and I join MSU Foundation and Alumni Association staff for Mayville State and Traill County events and opportunities to meet with our alumni and friends, some who live in the area year-around and others who are there for the winter months.

In the spirit of collegiality, MSU Foundation staff have facilitated the annual Traill County/Mayville State luncheon, which is a decades-old tradition, for the past several years. The purpose of the event is to bring current and former Traill County area residents and Mayville State University alumni and friends together for a time of socializing and reminiscing.

We cordially invite everyone with a Traill County and/or Mayville State connection to join us for the 2025 luncheon, which will be held Friday, Feb. 14 in Apache Hall of the Apache Wells Country Club, 5601 Hermosa Vista Drive, Mesa, Ariz. Socializing will begin at 11 a.m., and lunch will be served at noon.

Cost of the luncheon is $25 per person. Reservations are required and must be pre-paid by Feb. 4, 2025. Make checks payable to MSU Foundation and mail to the Foundation office at 330 Third Street NE, Mayville, ND  58257. Luncheon reservations may also be pre-paid online at www.mayvillestate.edu/az2025.

On Saturday, Feb 15, the MSU Foundation and Alumni Association will host a golf scramble, lunch, and socializing at Springfield Golf Resort, 1200 E St. Andrews Blvd., Chandler. Registration for golf teams is available at www.mayvillestate.edu/az2025. Cost is $100 per golfer and must be prepaid by Feb. 1. Shotgun start time is 8 a.m.

Non-golfers are invited to join the golfers at the clubhouse for lunch following the scramble. Cost of lunch for non-golfers is $20 per person. (Note: lunch is included with the registration fee for those who are golfing.) Lunch reservations are required and must be pre-paid by Feb. 1. Make checks payable to MSU Foundation and mail to the MSU Foundation office at 330 Third Street NE, Mayville, ND  58257. Lunch reservations may be pre-paid online at www.mayvillestate.edu/az2025.

The golf outing at Springfield Golf Resort has been an annual event since 2022. We’re grateful to Mayville State graduate and supporter Tim Garrett for his work that has been instrumental in making the event a success each year. Tim has enlisted the help of some of his friends, including Mark Osland, Mike Osland, and Duane Rindy. All of these Mayville State alumni are faithful and generous supporters. We are truly blessed to count them among our friends, and we thank them from the bottoms of our hearts. In 2022, about 35 alumni and friends participated in the golf outing. That number has grown each year. Last year, more than double that number of alumni and friends participated in the golf scramble and socializing.

We encourage all Mayville State alumni and friends to join us at Springfield Golf Resort on Feb. 15. It promises to be a great Comet Family reunion. There’s nothing better than being a part of the group when Comets gather. It’s heartwarming to see how much those in attendance genuinely enjoy being together. There are always lots of handshakes and hugs to go along with the many stories that are told and the experiences that are remembered fondly.

It really is impressive to see so many who care about Mayville State and look forward to opportunities to get together. In many cases, these may be the only visits they have with each other during the year. The smiles tell the complete story. Though their jobs and families have led them in different directions, their love for Mayville State and one another stands strong. This is exactly why I too love Mayville State University!

On behalf of the MSU Foundation and Alumni Association, I thank Mayville State University graduate Andy Strand for the instrumental role he played in Western State Bank’s sponsorship of the Mayville State activities in Arizona this year. Western State Bank has supported our events in Arizona several times over the years. We sincerely appreciate the support of these special friends.

If you’re in the Mesa/Chandler area the second weekend in February, I encourage you to join in the good times that will no doubt be held at the annual Traill County/MSU Luncheon and the golf event at Springfield Golf Resort. Everyone is sure to enjoy reminiscing about the past while making new memories to treasure. If you have questions, feel free to call 701-788-4864 or email alumni.mail@mayvillestate.edu.
