A Plant-a-Pot event is planned for Wednesday, May 22, 2024 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Mayville Public Library. In the spirit of service to the community, Dr. Joseph Mehus, Associate Professor of Biology and INBRE Researcher at Mayville State University, and Kelli Tvedt, a deputy with the Traill County Sheriff’s Department, are heading up the event which is being held to raise funds in support of the Mayville Public Library. Freewill donations will be accepted to help cover the cost of supplies and provide funds for the library.

“Adults, kids, grandparents, aunts, uncles … the whole family is invited to plant a pot to take home and enjoy all summer,” said Dr. Mehus.

For those who may not be able to attend the event, organizers are also giving the opportunity for people to have a pot planted for them and delivered to anyone in the Mayville-Portland area. Those who are not able to attend the event in person may send a donation to Joseph Mehus via Venmo (@Joseph-Mehus) or PayPal (joebio@msn.com).

Supplies for up to 50 pots will be available. Register at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0948A9AA2FA0F9CE9-48533945-spring/165032222#/. Those who will not be attending the event on May 22 may order their pot using the same link. Be sure to leave the address where you want the pot to be delivered.

Jacobson Brothers Outdoor Services, Mayville, N.D.; Spring Haven Greenhouse, Hatton, N.D.; Lake Agassiz Blomsterfarm, Hillsboro, N.D.; and Traill County Blooms, Hillsboro, as well as several private donors, have made contributions to the project that will help to make the benefits to the library even greater.

Participants may submit a photo of their pot to the Mayville Public Library Facebook page August 1-8. The owner of the nicest planter will win a $50 cash prize.
