Federal financial aid is available for summer semester if you are enrolled at least half-time and have remaining aid that was NOT used during the current fall and spring semesters. Some students who are eligible for the Federal Pell Grant may qualify for funding as less than half-time students during the summer. Please contact the Financial Aid Office at 701-788-4314 to make an appointment to discuss your specific situation.
The summer semester is the final term in the current academic year. Therefore, if you have completed the FAFSA for fall and spring, it also includes the summer term.
If you are a new student enrolling this summer, you will want to complete the Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the current academic year (Example complete the 2025-2026 FAFSA for summer of 2026). The 2025-2026 FAFSA will NOT be available after June 30, 2026.
If you plan to attend classes in fall 2026, you will also want to complete the 2026-2027 FAFSA. When completing your FAFSA, use the MSU School Code: 002993.
Students must be in compliance with MSU's Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) policy at the end of Spring semester to receive financial aid for Summer session.
Please note: Summer session may begin before Spring Satisfactory progress evaluations are complete.
